HOW LONG IS THE FISHING DAY?
I offer an 8-9-hour day on average at the posted prices. Customers are free to call the charter any time they wish but a full-day
fee will be charged.
CAN WE BRING BEER?
Of course. But please drink in moderation for safety's sake.
ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED ON MEGA BITES?
I can't think of a better way to enjoy a fishing charter than with the whole family present. But age is important. It's been my
experience that children younger than age 8 or 9 should stay home. Younger ones quickly grow restless and bored and could
spoil the outing for the others. If you have children consider a short day for them. Adults go
fishing in the morning, come back for the kids at noon, and head back out on the lake to finish the day. Make plans
accordingly. A fuel charge of one gallon per mile round trip is assessed for this service.
WHO WILL BE THE CAPTAIN?
Captain Tony Denslow has been chartering on Lake Erie since 1983. He holds
a U.S. Coast Guard license and an Ohio guide license. He is a member of the board of directors of the National Marine
Charter Association, Washington, D.C., the Central Basin Charter Boat Association and other professional charter fishing
and guide associations.
WHAT IS A MAKE-UP TRIP?
A make-up (or share charter) charter is for individuals who can't get a full group of six people together. If you are by yourself or
have a friend to go along, call me and I'll put you with others for a day of fishing. Cost is $90 per person, payable in advance.
WHY MUST I WEAR SOFT-SOLED SHOES? AND WHY CAN'T I BRING MY OLD METAL TACKLE BOX?
First, soft-soled shoed are more comfortable and you have better traction on the boat's deck. You have a greater chance of
slipping with street shoes or work boots. The lug soles of work boots also can harbor stones which will scratch the boat's
fiberglass floor. Metal tackle boxes do the same thing by leaving scratches. Damage by either is an expensive repair.
IF WE LIMIT BEFORE THE DAY IS UP WHAT HAPPENS?:
Most of the time customers are happy to go in, get their fish cleaned and head home. Fish cleaning often takes more than an
hour. But others may want to keep fishing on a catch-and-release basis. Fishing for a second species, though, increases the
charter fee to the combo rate.
WHAT ABOUT FISHING GEAR?:
Capt. Tony has taken the worry out of having the right fishing equipment. Of course, you can bring your own or use mine at no
extra cost. My gear is all top-of-the-line and field tested by professional fishermen. I use Fenwick rods and Daiwa/Shimano
reels spooled with Berkley Fireline. Each rod and reel combo retails for around $200.
I believe good equipment catches more fish.
WHAT TO BRING:
Cooler with food/drink, clothing to match the weather conditions, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, and a large cooler (
min 35 quarts) to take your fish home at the end of the day. But leave your fish cooler in your vehicle until you return. I have a
large ice chest on board for the fish.
My fishing gear/lures are available to use at no extra cost but if you bring your own rods and reels here are some guidelines.
A six-foot medium action rod and reel is a good combination for Lake Erie walleye/bass/perch fishing. Spool the reels with
10-pound test line.
